Straight Mormon Allies To March in Utah Pride Parade 2013

Straight allies of gays and lesbians are not rare, but those associated with an infamously anti-gay church are.  Last year, over 300 straight Mormons marched in Utah’s pride parade in support of the LGBT community.  Many feared backlash from the Church – even a possibility of excommunication – but the church took no stance on their involvement.  Recently, the Mormon Church has issued statements that, while not accepting gay “behavior”,  have acknowledged that being gay is not a sin.

Change in large institutions is hard.  I hope the church, with its influence and resources, will continue to ‘evolve’ on their positions and one day accept gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered families into their community without conditions.

It could happen…. They decided blacks could go to heaven as recently as 1978!
