This just in from my accountant, Tracy!
Married gay couples living in all U.S. states can file joint federal tax returns, even if their local authorities don’t recognize their marriages, the Obama administration said today.
The decision by the Treasury Department implements the Supreme Court’s decision in June to overturn part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which had forbidden the Internal Revenue Service from letting married homosexual couples file jointly.
This is huge! I can’t wait to hear the screams from the right-wing!

I’m a huge fan of Kristin Chenoweth. She has an incredible voice, of course, but her stage presence and humor sets her apart. Also, it amazes me the power such a small body can generate.
During a concert at the Hollywood Bowl Friday night, Chenoweth asked an audience member, Sarah Horn, on stage to sing a duet from “Wicked”, in which Chenoweth starred in on Broadway. No one expected Ms. Horn, a singing teacher, to not only hold her own, but actually match Chenoweth’s voice beautifully.
I can’t get enough of this video!
Actor Wentworth Miller Declines Russian Invitation by Coming Out

Wentworth Miller, who plays Michael Scofield on Fox’s Prison Break responded to an invitation to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival today with this: “… “as a gay man, I must decline.”
The entire letter, published by Glaad.org follows:
Re: St. Petersburg International Film Festival / “Guest of Honor” Invitation
Dear Ms. Averbakh:
Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes.
However, as a gay man, I must decline.
I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.
Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.
Until then.

Wow! What a fantastic gesture…. a powerful message of support the LGBT community that is being brutalized and discriminated against in Russia. Bravo to Mr. Miller. I am a new found fan!
Pentagon Will Grant Marriage Benefits to Same-Sex Couples

Last week the Pentagon announced that in September, they will be granting full federal rights to same-sex spouses of military personnel.
The Pentagon plans to extend to legally married same-sex couples the same privileges and programs that are provided to legally married heterosexual couples, including benefits tied to health care and housing, the official said.
This is a big deal… because of DOMA, same-sex spouses were excluded from many military benefits. With the Supreme Court decision striking down section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act, there are still many questions on what rights couples receive since marriage is only legal in a handful of states. This will hopefully set a precedent that will help the feds make other decisions favoring federal equality even for couples living in states that don’t recognize their marriages (like mine!)
