Great piece by Emerson Collins in the Dallas Voice on anti-bisexual feelings within the lgbt community. It is always good to check your own prejudices before condemning others… Something to do with “glass houses”

As homosexuals, we’ve expended an enormous amount of effort demanding respect for our identities. We cannot then deny that same respect to those who are bisexual. All of the understanding we ask for should be given to them first and loudest from us.

“Not Going Anywhere Tonight” By Eric Himan

Gay Singer/Songwriter Eric Himan released this song in response to Arizona’s law legalizing discrimination against LGBT citizens. The law is currently waiting on the Governor’s desk. Himan writes:

I couldn’t take it. I had to write this song and put it out there.” I urge everyone to take it seriously. Bills like this could easily find its way across our country. Let’s stop it now and continue our fight for our freedom to live as ordinary citizens with equal rights under the law.

In just a few short hours I wrote “Not Going Anywhere Tonight”, a soulful musical message to the Arizona Legislature. Within three days I recorded it with acclaimed DJ Alex Harrington and shot this video to get his message out while on tour.

This just in from my accountant, Tracy!

Married gay couples living in all U.S. states can file joint federal tax returns, even if their local authorities don’t recognize their marriages, the Obama administration said today.

The decision by the Treasury Department implements the Supreme Court’s decision in June to overturn part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which had forbidden the Internal Revenue Service from letting married homosexual couples file jointly.

This is huge!  I can’t wait to hear the screams from the right-wing!

Wentworth Miller, who plays Michael Scofield on Fox’s Prison Break responded to an invitation to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival today with this: “… “as a gay man, I must decline.”

The entire letter, published by Glaad.org follows:

Re: St. Petersburg International Film Festival / “Guest of Honor” Invitation

Dear Ms. Averbakh:

Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes.

However, as a gay man, I must decline.

I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.

Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.

Until then.

Wow! What a fantastic gesture…. a powerful message of support the LGBT community that is being brutalized and discriminated against in Russia. Bravo to Mr. Miller. I am a new found fan!

Read this open letter from British actor, writer and activist, Stephen Fry.  He ends with this:

I am gay. I am a Jew. My mother lost over a dozen of her family to Hitler’s anti-Semitism. Every time in Russia (and it is constantly) a gay teenager is forced into suicide, a lesbian “correctively” raped, gay men and women beaten to death by neo-Nazi thugs while the Russian police stand idly by, the world is diminished and I for one, weep anew at seeing history repeat itself.
