Watch: MMA is Absolutley 100% Not Gay

I never followed MMA (mixed martial arts). I’d heard of it, but I’m not a big fan of boxing, so I never checked it out. When my husband moved here from Canada, he was already a huge fan.
At first my reactions were mixed. The men were amazingly fit, nearly naked and rolling together on the floor – that’s kind of hot. But then there’s the blood… lots and lots of blood. I was oddly fascinated. As time went on, I learned more about the sport and started to enjoy the bouts for the amazing strength, strategy and sheer stamina these guys display. Plus, as I said, they are really hot.
I honestly think the erotica is in the eye of the beholder… I seriously doubt any straight guy is aroused during an MMA match, and I seriously doubt any gay guy is not at least a bit turned on. Despite your love, hate or indifference of the sport, I thought this video was pretty funny!

My friend, Patti posted this article on her Facebook wall. It may have been going around for a while, but this is the first I’ve seen it. It make me smile as I have been in that seat on more than one occasion.

Watch: Mr. Rogers Remixed

I grew up on Mr. Rogers. I remember being “too old” to be watching a kids show, and watching anyway because his show was so calming. All the other kids shows were great, but their frenetic pace was sometimes too much. And he always talked about each person being special. For so many gay kids struggling with who they are and how they fit in, that was an important message. Mr. Rogers was never judgmental.
This remix from PBS Digital Studios brings back a lot of memories and reminds us to think and be curious – something I think is lacking in a lot of people’s lives. I think this weekend I’ll grow something interesting in the “garden of my mind.”

The Waiting Game

Waiting for equality is so hard – My husband and I were talking last night – It appears the Supreme Court will be hearing one of more of the cases that have found DOMA unconstitutional by my next spring. I doubt it will happen that fast, but would’t it be great if we got federal recognition by 2013?
As we are scraping up the money for fall semester for my husbands tuition, it seems pretty unfair that we are paying triple what a married heterosexual couple pays. And when he graduates, what happens then? His visa is tied to being in school – there are other options we can look at, but it seems pretty unfair that we have to. We meet all the criteria to apply for permanent residency for him, but because we are both men, we would be denied because of DOMA.
We are getting near the finish line – the stakes are high for so many of us – the closer we are, the harder it gets to wait!

Another great message from the HRC supporting marriage equality.
I cannot imagine how, in 2012, our government is still denying equality to committed loving couples, just because they are gay or lesbian

Today the Danish Parliament voted 85 to 24 to offer full marriage equality to its gay citizens. Denmark was the first country in the world to offer registered partnerships back in 1989.
Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt posted the following on her Facebook wall:
‘Today we allow homosexual couples to enter into marriage on equal footing as everyone else – something that Socialdemokraterne has fought for many years’.
Congratulations Denmark! They join Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Iceland and The Netherlands. Read the full article from Gay Star News here.

I came across this great story in a special edition of Out Front Colorado Magazine – It’s all about bodies. Not just “fabulous” bodies, but real people talking about what their bodies mean to them.
It’s really refreshing to see something about a bunch of very beautiful people in all shapes and sizes and body types – rather than the airbrushed fitness models everywhere. Check it out here, you’ll be glad you did!

My wonderful friend and half of my first Inspiring Couples post, Thomas tipped me off to this cute ad. It is another testament to the fact that being gay is no longer carries the negative connotations it once did.
Another DOMA Defeat

Another DOMA ruling has come down, and again, it finds the discriminatory law unconstitutional. This time, a federal judge in New York ruled in favor of a Edie Windsor who was forced to pay$360,000 inheritance tax on money left her by her legally married wife, Thea Spyer. According to the Advocate:
“Thea and I shared our lives together for 44 years, and I miss her each and every day,” said Windsor in a statement. “It’s thrilling to have a court finally recognize how unfair it is for the government to have treated us as though we were strangers.”
This is the fourth separate case in which DOMA has been found unconstitutional.
